The FCC has mandated that broadband internet service providers label their broadband service plan offerings in a way that provides clear information to consumers about their service and pricing. These labels resemble the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) “nutrition facts” label. Among other things, the label must include information on pricing, service, speed, latency, and links to further information on topics like privacy and network management. The deadline has already passed for the majority of providers to display at the point of sale clear, easy-to-understand, and accurate information about the cost and performance of broadband services. Providers with 100,000 or fewer subscriber lines must do so by October 10, 2024. Those points of sale include online and in-store.
